Looks like a pre-Model 38, if there is no model number stamped inside the yoke with the cylinder open. It should say Bodyguard Airweight on the barrel. If not, it should be a Model 49 Bodyguard. I agree with Waidmann, the barrel was likely changed out in Feb. 1945. It's hard to tell what the numbers/letters are around the grip pin. Haven't seen that before. But, the N usually stands for nickel. Since the N is not boxed in, that is likely the original finish.
