I've found some suggested fixes but am waiting for some daylight so I can better see what I'm doing. by the way, I meant the tailgate memory button on the bank of buttons near the lower left of the steering wheel. there is the open tailgate button and also the memory button for the tailgate. make sure it's not pushed in. Right. I understood that.I soon learnt with our XT when opening or closing the rear tail gate electrically to be patient & not keep pressing the button (s), & to wait for the tail gate to fully latch before trying to start the engine (it appears that voltage drop caused by the starter motor can upset the rear tailgate when it is operating).
