Whether it's carbed or EFI, when the machine is cold, it needs more fuel. As engine temperature increases, it doesn't need as much fuel, and the carbon that started building up on the plug is burned back off. When a machine isn't ran for very long, carbon deposits continue to build on the plug.

I have a 2000 sportsman 500. I can't seem to get a pulse from the carb to work the fuel pump. I can blow into the fuel pulse line and get fuel to pump out. Also did a vacuum check on the pump and it looked good. Should just pump through when engine is turned over, these are a vacume pump, there is a pulse line hooked to the other side of your carb, this pulls a vacume when engine is turned over making fuel pump work. these pumps can get full of mud, you can take it apart and see. my polaris outlaw 500 sarted cuting out last ride could not ecerate past 1/4 throtle and was back fireing so went to fix and wont run at all i have spark, plug is wet, changed fuel, seems to have compresion, when it turns over it tries to fire at times more like a hickup almost stops the sarter and a puff of smoke out the carb. im about to tare ... ….
