Sep 16, 2023 · Unusual Options Activity (UOA) refers to a sudden and significant spike in trading volume for options contracts of a specific stock or asset. The activity usually indicates that smart money, like institutional investors, anticipates major price shifts. Trading volume on an option is relative to the volume of the underlying stock. Traders should compare high options volume to the stock's average daily volume for clues to its origin. When an option has high volume activity, it usually indicates one of three things. It may indicate that a major event is about to take place.
